Air Testing

Why Test Indoor Air Quality?

Contaminated can come from outside but there is also a smorgasbord of indoor sources like construction materials, consumer products, insects, pets and mold. Poor ventilation can let it accumulate to dangerous levels, a problem that often spikes in fall and winter as we seal up buildings to conserve heat.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are in countless consumer products such as: paint, glue, printers, rugs and shower curtains to name a few. VOCs have low boiling points, causing them to “off-gas” dangerous vapors even at room temperature. Some VOC vapors can cause short-term health issues like headaches and nausea while others pose longer-term risks, such as brain damage & cancer. VOCs have been responsible for what is commonly called “Sick Building Syndrome.”

Mold and mold colonies may not always be visible. Some mold may be trapped in wall cavities. Not visible to the human eye but still giving off harmful mycotoxins and MVOCs!

What is involved VOC testing?

  • VOC testing takes a 2 hour air sample
  • Each test covers 2000 sq ft of living space
  • Independent laboratory results identify all VOCs present that may be affecting your Indoor Air Quality.
  • Special testing for Formaldehyde is also available

VOC’s or Volatile Organic Compounds are organic chemicals that have a high vapor pressure at ordinary room temperature. That means that these gases and chemicals are easily dispersed into the air. Some VOCs are dangerous to human health and the environment and will negatively effect the indoor air quality of the home or business. The cost for this test is $300.
